Ladder 42

So there I am admiring the view from my 42nd floor office when the fire alarm starts ringing, with the loudspeaker going "Please stay calm and remain where you are. We are busy investigating an incident."

BTW - The Saddledome hockey stadium in top leftish of photo, and the Calgary Tower which is one of the Calgary cityscape wonders - it's quite gay cos my office on the 42nd is higher than that!

I'm like, fuck that, gonna bounce. Grab my files and laptop. Those things I'll protect with my life, I'll be burnt dark and crispy long before those two ever get damaged!!

Then the siren goes totally ape shit and the loudspeaker is like, "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!" and crap. How exciting! Until I realised I was on the 42nd floor.

There I am, snow jacket on, laptop backpack and files in my arms, I head down 42 flights of stairs! It took about 20 minutes to get down. I sat at Tim Hortons for coffee and lunch, hoping to see the building burn down or something, but it never did. So I went home. It was 13h30! Nice!

But surprisingly, people were really calm, no fears of 9/11 coming into play. Then again, this is Canadia. The only people Canadians ever piss off are the Americans. Oh wait, they seem to be bombing anything their president can't spell...
